Homemade Hamburger Helper

Say what you want about Hamburger Helper, the Meal-in-a-Box was a hit with my kids when they were small.
Yep, I admit it. I occasionally made it for my kids and make no apologies for it.
I didn’t grow up eating it. Mom made everything from scratch but I embraced the shortcut on those incredibly hectic busy nights…. and who am I kidding they were all incredibly hectic and busy.
Nowadays I make a homemade version. It is an easy & economical weeknight dinner, it’s a great spin on an American Classic and cooks in less than 25 minutes.
It’s also great for leftovers and can easily be reheated 👏👍
Homemade Hamburger Helper
1-2 lb ground beef (turkey can be substituted)
1 small onion chopped
3 cloves garlic chopped
2 cups water
2 cups beef broth
2 tbls Worcestershire sauce
2 cups dry pasta ( I used cavatappi)
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp smoked paprika
½ cup tomato paste
1/2 tsp sugar
Salt and pepper to taste
1 cup shredded cheddar
Preheat oven to 350F
Brown ground beef, garlic, and onion in skillet until no longer pink. Drain off the fat and add everything else to the skillet. Bring to a boil, and simmer uncovered for 15 minutes. Season with salt and pepper, sprinkle with cheese, and bake until it melts (5 more minutes)
